Rubbish

  • Rubbish: It's everybody's problem!
  • Each year, the average Frenchman produces approximately 400kg of rubbish.
40% of this is burnt in incinerators, producing dioxin, which is harmful both for human beings and animals.
40% is buried in landfills. For the UK, this figure increases to 60%
    Only 18% is currently recycled
  • The Eco Rider attitude:
  • With rubbish, prevention is better than cure.
Think carefully about your consumption. For example, do I really need to buy this product?
    Become
    consumer-actors
    - remember that every product you buy uses natural resources and creates rubbish, which pollutes our environment.
  • Your every day act of green:

  • Change consumer attitudes:
    • Buy second hand:
      It's economical and environmentally friendly
    • Avoid PVC and disposable items completely: Say 'no'
to plastic bags, wipes, plastic cups and plates, Clingfilm. Glass and wicker are recyclable and have a long life.
    • Avoid buying pre-packaged products.
Merchandising and packaging have created a whole mass of packaging waste. Alternatively. buy your tea in a box rather than individual sachets, choose ham off the bone rather than in packets...
    • Buy products with an eco-label:
These use fewer natural resources during their production process, and are recyclable.
    • Favour organic:
This guarantees a respectful attitude towards nature, agriculture and breeding, using little or no chemical fertilizers in either the ground or water and no GMOs

    Waste management:
    • Use your local waste disposal site for bulky items and dangerous or chemical waste. These items are then recycled or disposed of adequately.
      Recycling
is about acting in an environmentally responsible way.
      Household recycling
involves having separate rubbish bins and using the local council's containers for recyclables. If the resort you live in has not yet set up a recycling scheme, use recycling facilities down in the valley or in the closest town.
    • Glass is 100% recyclable:
1 tonne of recycled glass saves 660kg of sand and 100kg of fuel.
    • Recycled plastic
is found in new bottles, polar fleeces, anoraks; rubber pipes and ventilation shafts for buildings.
    • Drink tap water
instead of out of bottled water to avoid additional pollution.
1 tonne of recycled plastic = 600kg of petrol saved.
    • Paper and cardboard
can be recycled up to 10 times - saving forests and consuming four times less energy.
    • Metal
can be recycled from everyday items: 670 cans = 1 bike.
    • Organic waste can be composted:
Creating a natural fertilizer for your plants and garden. This saves on plastic rubbish bags and makes your bin on average 25% lighter. However, be careful not to mix in products that cannot be recycled, such as soiled glass, plastics and metal, with products that can.
