In favor of an ecologic continuity !
Water is a very fragile resource. Its quality in mountainous regions is of paramount importance. Since May 2011, the ONEMA has put in place new ranking indicators to assess their ecologic continuity, relying on the free movement of aquatic organisms in order to secure their access to the vital areas where they can feed, hide, grow or reproduce, but also the water quality and biodiversity of the natural environment (Directive cadre sur l’Eau - DCE, 2000 / source DREAL Centre, May 2010). The listing of rivers and streams is a statutory tool implemented to control and limit he impact of constructions (dam, dyke, canal lock, mill…) all along French rivers.
The review of these listings allows us to meet all new statutory requirements (the Blueprint Directive on Water, the bill on water and aquatic environment, the Grenelle environment forum) to achieve a good water quality and to protect biodiversity, to preserve fragile and unique aquatic areas and restore streams and their ecological continuity. The River Contract The river contract is a tool recommended by the State. It helps to implement a 5 yearlong program. These actions focus on: water quality, flood risk management, maintenance of rivers and their development. It globally analyses water management problems. All the people involved (fishermen, sportsmen, managers, clean water consumers, tourists...) are brought together to take a decision on water quality. The territory must be considered as a whole (streams, rivers, etc.) to guarantee a sufficient quality. This explains why some river contracts respect natural boundaries and do not respect administrative boundaries.
My resort was awarded this logo if:
The resort disposes of a water consumption management system and also ensures that the snow guns are not exhausting existing resources. The resort has a development plan for water use or a type of “river contract”. The water taken is entirely dispersed within the same water catchment area and the wastewater plant benefits from a premium for its good functioning.
